Solar Lights – 10 things to consider when selecting solar lighting

squirrel-holding-solar-lightSolar lights have been around for a long time and have greatly improved though the last few years.  They come in various sizes, colors, materials and lighting types.  Picking the right ones requires a little advanced planning.   They can easily be installed anywhere and require no wiring.  They only require direct sunlight and they will give you many hours of lighting pleasure. 

 

Some ways to use solar lights are:

 

1.  Solar pathway lights.  You may want to light up a pathway to your outdoor hot tub, flower garden, and gazebo or even use they as driveway markers.

 

2.  Solar landscape lights.  You may want to enhance facets of your landscape.  You can do this with sets of landscape lights that can be place anywhere to accentuate whatever you want to bring out.

 

3.  Solar spotlights.  You may want to light up a special tree, shrub or flower garden or just light up your house numbers.   Many types of solar lights are available to do just that.

 

4.  Solar stepping-stones.  You can add a solar stepping-stone as a part of your pathway.  These solar stepping-stones come in 12-14 inch square or round shapes have a small light that lights up at night.   What a marvelous way to accentuate your pathways.

 

5.  Solar rocks.   Solar rocks are lights in the shape of rocks and are usually spotlights.  Their natural looking and add a subtle and practical touch to your yard. They can be intermingled within your rock garden to light up your ponds or pathways or whatever you’d like to light up.

There are far more types of solar lights than what you see in your average stores. There are virtually hundreds of different types that can fulfill your every lighting need and even add a special touch to any outdoor project.

 

Typically what you see in most stores are pathway lights and perhaps some spot lights. There are actually many types of specialty solar lights. There are seasonal lights and forms, security lights, flowered lights and even lights that come in forms like dogs, frogs, turtles, birds, insects and even ones that float in a swimming pool.

 

If you are a dog aficionado, there is a yellow dog, black Labrador, a boxer and a British bulldog and they are holding a solar lantern. They actually look like a dog sitting out in your yard and they are holding a lantern in their mouths.

 

If you have an outdoor fountain, you may want to select a frog, turtle or snail that lights up after dark. What a wonderful way to show off your waterfall or water display.

Solar Lights to light your neighborhood

The next time you are out driving around take note of all the places that have solar lights. Depending on the neighborhood of course, you may see people using them to line their sidewalks, as perimeter lighting around their flower garden or shrubbery or even just spot lights lighting up the front or back of their house. Really, there are a lot of ways they can be used.

By driving around the neighborhood, you basically get an idea on how people use them and then you can have some idea on how you can use them. You may have similar areas that you feel may benefit by having lighting and with solar lights; you just have to go to your neighborhood store that sells them and install them. It’s that simple.
